At the moment when the egg is successfully implanted in the uterus after fertilization, hormonal changes begin to take place in the woman's body, which manifest themselves in different ways in the female organism. These hormonal changes also affect the breasts and are not just visual changes, as many future mothers may think.

Breast changes take place already in the first trimester of pregnancy. Every woman's body is different, while some women perceive and feel changes in relation to their breasts very intensely, others notice them very naturally. A woman can observe the first indications on her breasts roughly 2 to 4 weeks after the beginning of pregnancy . Changes in the structure of the breasts can cause breast tenderness and nipple sensitivity. This sensitivity in many women lasts until the end of the first trimester or persists until the time of delivery. Breasts subsequently change during the entire course of pregnancy.

The first increase in breasts appears around the 6th-8th week and they gradually increase until childbirth, which is also very individual. In the case of successful lactation, they increase even after childbirth. In general, a woman's breasts increase up to 1.5 times during pregnancy. With sudden breast enlargement, stretch marks and an itchy feeling may appear. In the second trimester, the nipples also enlarge and the circles around them (areolas) darken slightly and the so-called Montgomery's glands, which produce an oil component. This prevents excessive sensitivity and prevents later infection during breastfeeding. The solution to soreness and sensitivity is a maternity bra.
