When trying to conceive a child, timing is absolutely the most important thing. The fusion of the female egg and the dominant male sperm, as well as the subsequent nesting of the egg, requires very hospitable conditions. The right time is ovulation, that is, the phase of the menstrual cycle when a woman has the most fertile days and the chance of fertilization is then the highest.

A woman's fertility is highest only during a few days of the menstrual cycle. It is about ovulation - fertile days. Ovulation begins approximately in the middle of a woman's 28-day cycle, which is approximately day 12 to 14 of menstruation. In a broader sense, the fertile period can be considered 4 days before the middle of the cycle and 4 days after. Some information says 3 days before the middle of the cycle and 1 day after the ovulation phase. It is during this period that it is best to attempt unprotected sexual intercourse with the aim of fertilization. A man's sperm can survive in a woman's body for 48 to 72 hours, and even during the following days it can still successfully fertilize a mature egg and its subsequent implantation. During ovulation, a woman can also notice certain signals on her body. For example, increased libido (desire for sex), a feeling of attraction, occasional stabbing pains in the lower abdomen or very mild spotting. You can also monitor your basal temperature, which usually rises by 0.5 °C after ovulation.

How do I know when I'm ovulating? To determine the fertile days, a simple calculation based on the menstrual calendar can be used, if the regular menstrual cycle has 28 days. Urine ovulation tests are also suitable, which can alert you to ovulation already 36 hours before it starts. Many women also use an ovulation calendar, where they accurately record the beginning and end of menstruation, while it is possible to determine the period in the middle of the cycle, when there is the highest probability of becoming pregnant. A doctor can help you accurately determine fertile days thanks to folliculometry.
